There’s a housing crisis in Virginia’s 2nd cong. dist. campaign this year.

Democrat-ick candidate Glenn Nye has two that he is calling his “primary” residence — one in D.C. and one in Virginia.  And he’s claiming tax breaks for his D.C. home.  Oops!

DRAKE CAMPAIGN CALLS ON NYE TO PAY THE BACK TAXES
HE OWES TO WASHINGTON, D.C.

VIRGINIA BEACH-VA- Thelma Drake for Congress campaign manager Corry Bliss released the following statement on Glenn Nye’s admittance to falsely receiving the homestead deduction on a home he own’s in Washington DC:

“Glenn Nye admitted to reporters today that he is falsely receiving the homestead deduction on a home he owns in Washington D.C. According to legal documents obtained from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue Glenn Nye bough a home in 2005 and took the homestead deduction - a 64,000 tax assessment deduction that is only eligible to DC homeowners who maintain their DC home as their primary residence. Today, Glenn Nye admitted to reporters that he is using the home as a rental property. We demand that Glenn Nye immediately refund the District of Columbia the back taxes that he owes for falsely taking the homestead deduction in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.”

According to the Government of the District of Columbia’s Office of Tax and Revenue Customer Service Administration eligibility for the Homestead Deduction is as follows:

To be eligible for the Homestead deduction you must: 1) own and reside in the property as your principal place of residence; (bold and italics in the original)… 3) complete an Affidavit stating that you have completed the document truthfully.

“By his own admission today, Glenn Nye has not fulfilled the eligibility requirements for the Homestead deduction. We call on Mr. Nye to pay the taxes he rightfully owes the Government of the District of Columbia.”
